HER Planet Earth Partners with Géraldine Fasnacht
For Climate Action and Women Empowerment
HER Planet Earth has partnered with world-renowned, professional Swiss freerider, base jumper and wingsuit pilot, Géraldine Fasnacht, on an upcoming adventure entitled Connection Earth. This televised journey of exploration aims to take viewers on a whirlwind trip around the globe aboard Géraldine’s self-piloted, ultra-light, bush plane to discover untouched and pristine places and to highlight the beauty and majesty of nature.

An added objective of the voyage is to raise awareness and funds for international, national or local associations in the regions visited by Géraldine that embrace the same values of environmental conservation and women empowerment championed by HER Planet Earth. One of these initiatives is the United Nations' Women Lead Climate Action programme that educates underprivileged women in the Asia region and engages them in environmental issues and conservation activities, ultimately helping them build longer-term climate change resilience.

HER Planet Earth works with people and organisations around the world that share the same values and objectives of uplifting women in the face of growing environmental degradation. Gender often remains the untold story behind climate change. In many countries, women are among the most vulnerable to climate change and environmental impacts, partly because they make up the larger share of the agricultural workforce and tend to have access to fewer income-earning jobs. And while climate change is a global phenomenon, its effects are felt locally, and poor people suffer the most. Among the world’s 1.3 billion poor people, the majority are women. HER Planet Earth is delighted to count Géraldine, who is such an inspiring athlete and strong advocate for the protection of the environment and the empowerment of women, as one of our Brand Ambassadors and Partners.

Geraldine who is based in Switzerland shared, “Nature is very much at the core of what I do as an athlete and I feel fortunate to be able to live my passion through my sports. It is right and indispensable to fight for our planet’s integrity and protection. I would like to support women, but also different communities around the world, who may not be as fortunate as me. Through Connection Earth I hope to take viewers deep into nature on an adventure of discovery. The journey will highlight nature’s raw beauty from some of the most remote and difficult to access locations on the planet. HER Planet Earth will be with me every step of the way, as I share the important message of empowering women and inspiring people for a healthier planet.”

The journey will start in the Alps at the Aletsch glacier, the longest glacier in Europe and a Unesco World Heritage site, this May 2018. The project will continue around the world to China, Russia, Madagascar, Alaska and Patagonia where Géraldine will meet local communities on the way. She will be landing her small ultra-light plane on some of the roughest and most challenging terrains on the planet, often with no airfields, no flight controllers, no auto-pilot, no option to fail, just skill, experience and pure courage and guts. Viewers will follow her LIVE through short clips or webcasts on this pioneering adventure as she searches for the perfect spot for her next wingsuit flight or snowboard ride.

At the heart of sustainable development is a respect for all fundamental human rights as well as accountability to the earth and future generations. Climate change and environmental degradation are barriers to sustainable development, augmenting existing inequalities. Ultimately, Connection Earth, born out of GéraldineFasnacht’s passion for adventure, exploration and love of nature, strengthened by the partnership with HER Planet Earth, aims to promote the importance of building a word where human rights and environmental integrity can blossom and prosper.
