In October 2017, HER Planet Earth partnered with #WasteNoWeekend, a movement that encourages individuals to devote 25% of their week to exploration, adventure and life enriching experiences. Together we brought a team of 10 women to surf and SUP in Siargao, Philippines, during four days, to support the Siargao Environmental Awareness (SEA) Movement, a local organisation, which focuses on marine conservation and empowerment of underprivileged Filipino women.
About SEA Movement
SEA Movement is a collaboration between people of diverse backgrounds and skills - surfers, artists, writers, journalists, IT experts and policy-makers - who want to preserve the natural resources and beauty of the island of Siargao. It is also a great hub for people with unique skills and a passion for nature to connect and network together.
Ultimately, SEA Movement aims to create waves of change and is also about surfing in clean and pristine waters.

As part of this mission, the team helped fund and set up a new grassroots initiative for local women in Siargao. This livelihood project focused on recycling items such as shopping bags or plastic from the sea to create fashionable bags and accessories for sale. The funds raised by HER Planet Earth went towards buying materials that the women need, such as sewing machines, thread and ink for printing logos, to help them start the process and launch their co-op project.
